On the occasion of this milestone,
during the 2025–2026 school year, The Tipping Point, in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Greece, is implementing the program “Freedom 250: American Leadership Inspires Future Leaders in Greece”. Through this initiative, students from 20 secondary schools across Greece explore the historical significance of the American Independence and the ways in which it shaped modern ideals and values across the world.
As part of the program, educational material is provided for classroom use, aiming to support an in-depth exploration of the historical importance of the American Independence through a comprehensive approach that combines both cognitive learning and experiential engagement. The material also highlights the strong bonds between the United States and Greece throughout the last 250 years.
The program
is addressed to high school students, who will have the opportunity to:
Understand
the historical significance of the American Independence and its influence on Europe and Greece.
Examine
the concepts of democracy, freedom, and active citizenship.
Explore
how Athenian democratic ideals contributed to the formation of the U.S.A.
Recognize
how ideas rooted in the past continue to shape our rights and democracy in contemporary society.
Specifically
Students take part in live group sessions with mentors from the network of Exchange Alumni of the U.S. Embassy in Greece, comprised of professionals with experience in leadership and educational programs of the U.S. Department of State. They then move from theory to practice through a creative activity centered around the concept of freedom in modern society.
At the same time, educators responsible for implementing the program in their schools take part in specialized training, enabling them to effectively use the educational material at every stage of the program, and deliver a holistic, student-centered learning experience.
